The Story Behind Atala Counseling Studio

The Atala butterfly was once believed to be extinct.

Native to South Florida, the Atala depended entirely on the coontie plant for survival. As settlers harvested the coontie to produce arrowroot flour in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the butterfly's habitat disappeared. By the 1950s, the Atala was considered probably extinct, and for many years it was thought to be gone forever.

Then, in 1959, a small surviving population was discovered in a remote part of South Florida. Conservationists and local communities began replanting the coontie, allowing the butterfly to slowly recover. Today, the Atala is recognized as one of Florida's most remarkable conservation success stories.

Its story is a reminder that what appears lost is not always gone.

That is why I chose the name Atala Counseling Studio.

Trauma has a way of convincing us that we have lost parts of ourselves that can never be recovered. It can leave us feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain that life will ever feel different. Many people come to therapy carrying this quiet belief, wondering if healing is really possible for them.

The work of therapy is rarely dramatic. More often, it unfolds through consistent care, honest conversations, and the experience of feeling safe enough to begin again. Over time, people reconnect with themselves, strengthen relationships, and rediscover qualities that have always been there beneath the pain.

The Atala butterfly represents resilience, restoration, and hope. Its story reminds us that healing is not about becoming someone new. It is about returning to the person you were always created to be.

Growth Through Connection

I believe people heal through connection. Connection with themselves, with the people they love, and with a space that feels safe enough to explore life's hardest experiences.

Many of the reasons people seek therapy begin with disconnection. Trauma, anxiety, grief, and relationship struggles can leave us feeling distant from who we are and uncertain of how to move forward.

My approach is grounded in the belief that healing grows through trust, curiosity, and compassion. Together, we will make sense of your experiences, strengthen your relationships, and help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have felt lost along the way.

At Atala Counseling Studio, I believe therapy is not about becoming someone new. It is about returning to the person you have always been.
